Shot on a warm summer day from the gift shop inside of the historic Belle Isle Aquarium, where I was actually working that summer. There was no air conditioning in that small shop and in the summer the temperatures would sometimes reach into the 90's, making it stifling hot inside so I would open the window to try to catch a breeze.
The aquarium and conservatory were both designed by Albert Kahn and built between 1902 and 1904; the conservatory was modeled off of The Crystal Palace and Palm House at Kew Gardens (both in London). The Conservatory building is divided into five distinct sections: the Palm house (inside the domed center), the Tropical house (South Wing), the Cactus house and Fernery (North Wing), and the Show house (East Wing). The main feature of the building is the 85 feet (26 m) high central dome, which houses palm trees and other tropical plants.
