Artist Statement:
Picture Detroit’s mission is to promote Detroit while building community through visual media. Christina Collie, founder of Picture Detroit, has always been passionate about photography: first studying the technical aspects while in high school, and then focusing more on the history and creative side at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). She eventually transferred to, and graduated from, College for Creative Studies (Detroit), which solidified her love for the city that inspires the images in her collection. Picture Detroit specializes in fine art and street photography; some photos are left as-is with a minimal amount of editing, while others combine mixed media, paint, and found objects into the canvas prints. Picture Detroit has partnered with three Detroit non-profits to help other Detroit entrepreneurs achieve their dreams through a donation a portion of all sales: Build Institute, Detroit Soup, and Kiva Detroit.
