Capitol Park Construction Magnet

Historic Capitol Park was the location of Michigan's first capital in 1837. Our first Governor, Stevens T. Mason, was 19 years old when first appointed acting Territorial secretary by Andrew Jackson, and 22 when he became governor. Mason is entombed in the monument erected to him in Capitol Park, just out of sight to the right of the image. His remains were returned to Detroit from New York, where he had passed away, in 1843. He is the youngest State Governor in the history of the United States.
